I got this information last minute yesterday. Yesterday was the funeral of John Zacherle. It was at 2:00 pm at the Plaza Jewish Community Chapel. The Chapel is located at 630 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10024, USA. I hope it was a proper and many attended to honor him. His remains have been cremated and will be cared for by his family. Their was a live stream on the chapels site for the service. Which is interesting never heard about that before.

It seems like their is a public tribute to be planned at the Chiller Theater Expo in April if 2017. if you like updates you can click on the Expo website about the weekend long tribute event. Chiller Theater Expo website I will keep you update on more information comes available.
People are still sadly reeling from the news of Zacherley passing. He was a true legend in the Horror host community. If there was a Mount Rushmore of horror hosts he would be on it. I wanted to honor Zacherley in some way. So I decided to ask horror host and other folks What did Zacherley mean to them? Each person may have a different meaning to what he was to them. He may have been a friend, their first horror host, or just a legend. It is interesting to see how much one person can inspire so much in different people. I hope this honors him and help keep his legendary career going.

I thought I would be the first one to answer the question. The meaning of Zacherley to me is a person who was given an opportunity to continue the legacy of horror hosting mantel after Vampira. And boy did he run with opportunity to create a wonderful long career. He helped to bring life to those old classic movies and laughs to his audience. Basically in a nutshell Zacherley meant to me was the true embodiment of a horror host. He hosted those wonderful classic cheesy movies, made you laugh, entertained you and just generally cared for his fans. And that to me is an ultimate template for a great horror host. He will be missed and his legacy shall be remembered.

In the next section is some of the horror hosts that wrote about what Zacherley meant to them.
Sadly, since I am only 21 years old, I never had the opportunity to witness Mr. Zacherle's greatness, and I never got to meet the man, however, he inspired other horror hosts that followed, like Count Gore De Vol and Svengoolie who served as my main influences so with that, I owe a debt to him for being a pioneer in this field.
When I look back through the rich history of the Horror Host I can only
think of one King that started it all, and that’s John “Zacherley”
Zacherle. To try and put into words what he meant to the genre is very
difficult, but I feel confident in saying that without the efforts of
Zacherle none of us (Horror Hosts) would be here today. I grew up in
Northeast Ohio with the likes of Ghoulardi, Hoolihan, Big Chick and
Little John, but soon discovered the trailblazer, the King, Zacherley.
The moment I saw him come to life on my television I knew that was what I
wanted to do in life; I would become a horror host.
Without Zacherley leading the way there wouldn’t have been the influx
of Horror Hosts in the late 50’s and early 60’s. Drawing the viewer in
and making them feel like they were watching a movie with an old friend
was part of the charm, and magic, of Zacherley. It was that feeling
that became my inspiration. For the last 20 years, I have told people
at shows, and conventions, that Horror Hosts are all just descended from
the greats. We’ve all had our influences in life through the years,
and depending on where they live geographically they have a story about a
horror host that holds a special place in their heart. For me it all
goes back to the beginning. Without Zacherley leading the way there
wouldn’t have been a Ghoulardi, or a Hoolihan and Big Chuck Show, or a
Big Chuck and Lil’ John Show. Which means there would have been a
Saturday Fright Theater. For me all roads lead back to the one, and
only, John “Zacherley” Zacherle. Thank you Zacherley, thank you for
everything.
What Zacherley meant to me was Horror Hosting. He was the first Horror Host I knew of, the first Horror Host I ever met and he was the first Horror Host that, well made me know what a Horror Host was.
I can't say we were great friends, but I would like to believe we were friends all the same. Over a 20 year period, I saw him at least twice a year at the Chiller convention, I did have coffee with him once, did visit his apartment once and in the thrill of a lifetime, got to film with him on his set and listen to his wonderful stories.
Funny part is as often as I would see him in costume, he barely remembered me, but out of costume he would greet me with a warm smile, a smile of recognition and remembrance. He would shake my hand and say "ahhh, it's the lad with the Welsh name." In a sense it befuddled me that he couldn't remember Halloween Jack, but then made me feel good that as myself, I was more memorable to him.

Unfortunately because of both our health issues, I had not seen Zacherley in 5 years and that is something that I deeply regret. I knew he wouldn't live forever, no matter how much I had hoped that would be possible, but I had hoped he would be around a little longer so I could see that warm smile one more time. But I don't dwell on that, I think about how fortunate I was to have the time with him I did. And how fortunate
I am, because not everyone gets to meet their idols.

I decided to open up to fans besides horror hosts to answer the same question. Here are their answers below.

<span data-ft="{"tn":"K"}">When
I woke up this morning and read of the passing of John Zacherle I had
to stop and think how much horror hosts have had an impact in my life. A
local horror host was a TV friend for a gawky ten year old when real
ones were in short supply.

My
thirty year journey with Zacherle began in 1986 on a trip with my
mother to Montgomery Wards. We had bought our first VCR some two years
before and were taking it in for maintenance when I came across a bin of
discount VHS tapes. While browsing through the stack I came across a
tape called “Horrible Horror” hosted by Zacherley. Who was Zacherley and
what was I about to discover?

Once I
got home I shoved down two servings of french bread pizza and popped
the tape into the VCR. I loved what I saw. I connected with Zach's humor
and antics immediately. But I loved his glorious laugh the most. So
much of what I had seen on my local horror host show was present here,
pioneered by the cool ghoul himself. What a wonder!

I
followed Zacherley through his Archives release as well as his CD
output so he has never been far from my thoughts. Today when I
co-produce our live Robo-Cat Horror Theater show with The Great Razooly
is Zacherley's standards that I strive for and his sense of fun. It is a
pleasure to do these shows and introduce a new generation to the horror
host. Zach set the bar high. We will carry on in his grand tradition.
Thanks for the memories Zach!
It's horror news time. Not too much this week. I have a side project I am working on for the blog so wanted to mainly focus on getting the horror host Halloween specials up. But their was one special item I wanted to report on.

It was Godzilla's birthday on November the 3rd. He is 62 and doesn't look bad for his age that crazy old lizard. He has seen some facelifts and changes recently with the new American Godzilla in 2014 and Shin Godzilla this year. I am hoping to see him come back even more in the upcoming years. Just a side note I do say he when I am talking about Godzilla. I like to think of him as a dude lol but who knows. Any way happy birthday Godzilla and let's hope for many more years of destruction in your future.
I thought it was cold the other week but it is even getting colder. There are also even more leafs on the ground and everywhere else. But sadly instead of soaking up all that Halloween goodness it seems like everyone is already jumping to get ready for Christmas. At this point of time, I am trying to get my horror movie marathons done, pumpkin craving, and eating some treats. I know it is early but I would like to wish everyone a Happy Halloween and I hope you get a treat and not a trick.

Last week, horror host news covered some horror host Halloween specials and some other updates. This week will be the same but also mixed with some other horror host goodness. Check it out below.
Looks like Elvira is going to be in horror host news again this week. She will be again featured on TV. This time on AMC Comic Book Men. Comic Book Men is a show that features the comic book shop that Kevin Smith that director of Clerks, Red State, and many other classics owns. The shop is called,"Jay and Silent Bob's Secret Stash" located in New Jersey. And the show basically follows the employees of the shop and some of the interesting items that come in the shop each week. In Episode 2 of Season 6, the guy at the shop plans a blood drive and they get help from Elvira Mistress of the Dark. Also in the summary of the episode, it says that during the episode the guys talk about the joys of Mystery Science Theater 3,000. So it looks like a packed horror host episode. It will be on this Sunday at midnight.
One last item, I must post and it is hard to post. It was reported that Zacherley the cool Ghoul or Roland to others hap passed away on October 27. Not much more information is know about what happen or when the funeral will take place. Check back here in the weekly updates or I will be doing separate postings about it. He will be missed especially around this Halloween. I thought it was interesting that one of his last news update on his website talked about Halloween coming up and Chiller Theater. Both were big parts of his life. With the ending of this week horror host news update I will leave with the last news update by zacherle.
It's horror news time.

I reported on many of horror icons in the horror news updates such as Micheal Myers, Chucky, Freddy, and Ash. I had a little article that focused on Jason from Friday the 13th but nothing about his own franchise and what is going on with it. It was one of the most talked about topics on the morning of October 26th on Facebook. It seems the production of Friday the 13th newest installment has found a filming location and a start date. Earlier this year it was reported by many media sources that Friday the 13th franchise could get a new movie or even a TV show on the CW network. But those fleeting nightmares of a new movie and show was soon dashed. The movie was release date was pushed back due to rewrites and other items. And the CW show was shelved due to reasons unknown.

This left many to wonder will there favorite hockey mask machete wielding slasher favorite will be on the big screen again. Well just this week it was reported in an interview with Brad Fuller and Andrew Form that they are indeed continuing with the production of the movie. The casting for the movie will start in December. And the big news is that it will start filming in Atlanta this Spring. And the film will be released on October 13, 2017. This is some exciting news to actually see some kind of traction going on with this film and it actually will be going somewhere. below is the full interview if you like to see it.

Over the past weekend, millions tuned into the walking Dead wondering who would be the latest victim out their favorite characters. When it was who was it brought some fans to tears and ruined their day. But it seems the Walking Dead might be ruining something else.

In a recent interview with IndieWire George Romero talked about how The Walking Dead and World War Z has ruined him to do new installment of his zombie franchise. Romero stated that, "the success of The Walking Dead and World War Z as a major reason why I can't pitch Socioplotical zombie films with a modest budget. I used to be able to pitch them on basis of the zombie action, and I could hide the message inside of that. Now you can't. The moment the word 'zombie', it's gotta be 'Hey, Brad Pitt will be paid $400 million to do that." It is really kind of disheartening to hear that. He was one of the people to help push zombies through the decades. He may have not come up with the initial ideas of zombies or ghouls but he shaped it to be what it is now. And he might be left out of the sub genre totally because of the new direction it is going in.

He also stated more in the article about how The Walking Dead has affected him making future zombie movies. Here is what he said," Then all the sudden, here came, The Walking Dead. A zombie film with that had any sort of substances could not be made. It had to be a zombie film with just zombies wreaking havoc."

I can understand where he is coming from he is about the zombies causing havoc but he wants to have an over all underlying social theme to it. And at times with zombie movies it is just no substances zombie action or become too much of a soap opera. When it comes to The Walking Dead I am biased I do have to admit. I enjoy the comic books more than the series and think at times to do it full justice they would have to go to a paid channel such as HBO or Showtime because the comics are so much more darker.

Also I believe the zombie genre at this point and time is so burnt out. When Hollywood get a hold of something that works they will run with it until there is nothing left. Some zombie movies at this point have become as mindless as the zombies themselves. I think it may be time to let the genre rest a little or come out with fewer a year. If your a zombie fan than this is your time. I do hope George will make one more film of the zombie proportion before he is officially done directing.

* Some of this is my personal opinion and may not have much backing but you can always tell me what you think.

This morning around four, I was at work and came across that Zacherley had passed. I was just hoping it was a rumor. It couldn't be true. Just like his character I believed he was going be around forever as a stable in the horror host community. But that is just me being greedy. It was great to have him for 98 years to entertain us as the true ghoulfather of horror hosts. Vampira may have started it all off but Zacherley picked it up from there and became an icon. This is both shocking and sad to read. I may have not got my chance to meet him personally. But last year I did a big write up on him, and all the research I did I felt like I got to know him in some way.

That smile of his and his laugh is just contagious and makes me laugh so bad. He will sadly be missed in the community by fans and horror hosts a like. My prayers goes out to his family and friends. I am sorry this is such a raw write up but I wanted to definitely post this to share this sad information to everyone. So they could pay their respects to this great legend. In the coming weeks I will be working on paying my respect to him the best I can.
Last weeks horror host news, was packed full with horror host Halloween Special information. Well this week is going to be an update on one special and some other frights.
Last week, I reported on the Screaming Soup Halloween special was coming and it had official arrived this week on Thursday. It was a wonderdful 36 minute spooktacular. This episode featured the review of the Basket Case trilogy and the final showdown between Deadwest and Buzzkill. I never seen the Basket Case films but the Screaming Soup crew seems to covered the films like they usually do in their own wonderful way. After the review it leads to the final battle of epic Proportions. Make sure during the battle and other parts of the episode to look out for the whose who of horror. All I can say is a certain bat wielding hairy little critter becomes a true hero. This episode was a nice close to the season.

And the ending of the Episode it gives you a little tease of what is to come in January of next year. You thought Marvel Civil war was the battle of the century. Well I think season fours battle of Troma Vs. Full Moon will be even more crazier. So many questions need to be answer and so long to wait. All I know is I hope Deadwest is ready to ref this horror showdown. I am excited for the next season.
The next Halloween special which looks to be coming sometime next week is "The Mummy and the Monkey show" special. The special will be number two to last years special. The special will be entitled, "The Mummy and the Monkey's Pumpkin Spice Halloween Special II." The special was filmed at the 7 Floor of Hell. Which is a haunted house located in Middelburg Heights, OH. It looks like it will be a scary good time. This week they just released an intro to their special. That is all the information so far about the special but once I gain more information about it. I will report on it.

Almost every week, I have some kind Elvira news. Especially with her new book coming out and her KNOTT'S Berry Farm show. She was most recently featured in one of my favorite bi-monthly horror magazine called, "Horrorhound."Within the pages of the magazine they first have short interview entitled," 10 Questions with Cassandra Peterson and Elvira." The interview was conducted by Jason Hignite. It is a fun interview and the questions aren't the usual questions which is great. The Elvira answers to the questions are hilarious and Cassandra answers them seriously. I like a weird version of good cop and just goofy cop. It makes the the interview easy to read and just plain funny.

There is also a nice retrospect entitled," Elvira Mistress of The Dark." It was also done by Jason Hignite the same writer of the interview. In the retrospect he clearly maps out all of Elvira's career from her start to current time. It even covers her various movie and T.V. appearances. Also has some nice facts about her merchandise and some other fun facts. It worth a read and you might just learn something new.

Another interview in Horrorhound that is horror host related is entitled, "The Art of Horror Hosting: "Count Cool Rider." Again another interview done by Jason Hignite. This article is about Danny Kroker, better know as Danny from "Counting Cars" on the History Channel. In the interview the count is asked various questions about his career as a host. It is a very interesting interview. And you may just learn something you didn't know such as he did the character up until 2012. If your horror host fan than this issue is worth to pick up.

The next horror host news is just a small update on Tales of the Crypt. It was reported earlier in the year that TNT was working on bring the show back. It looks like the show will run for an hour and will be airing in Fall of 2017. It will be the same format with the Crypt Keeper and different horror stories being shown.

Many see the Crypt Keeper as a host of sorts and others don't. I am personally in the middle of this. I feel like he was a host of the horror stories but he wasn't a host to horror of scifi movies. Which most hosts focus on bringing life back to those cheesy movies of the past. Its hard to say but needless to say the Keeper is coming back next year. I'll report more on it when I see more information. so check back.

Let's move on to some horror new.

Last week, I reported on the king of the monsters was returning with the help of Toho studio again. He recently returned in the 28th installment of the franchise "Shin Godzilla." It came out to an atounding success of millions in Japan. Now it was our turn last week when it was released as a limited releases. And kast Tuesday was the last day of the limited run. With the limited releases the movie brought in $1, 537, 190. That was with only 490 theaters showing it around America. Could you imagine if they had a full run in more theaters.

Since the success, It was announced it was announced that the FUNimation distribution company will extended the release. They are going to have a special matinee on Saturday October 22th in 200 theaters. And than continuing showings in certain theaters across America until October 27th. If you want know where you can see it. You just have to visit the FUNimation website.

Since there was so much Horror host news this week I thought I would just give you and update on the one horror new story this week. But I felt bad so I thought I would give you a treat and post a full movie you can view below. This movie is a William Castle classic 13 Ghosts. It is so much better than the horrible gory remake they came out with. It is even better when you can watch it in three-D with the glasses. The glasses would also make the ghosts appear and pop out at you as they did within the story of the movie. No wonder he was the king of gimmicks.

Enjoy and until next week stay creepy.
This next bit of news is a special preview for a New horror host and his show. The horror host name is Slash. Slash wrote a brief Synopsis of what his show is about. He said, "Slash is a crazy wolf-man who loves horror and fright! Along with his pals Bones, Hoot, Poe, bats, and Dooey the spider. Those characters make up the show "Graveyard Tales". Anything can happen I like to think it's a cross between "Tales from the Crypt" and "Pee Wee's Playhouse". We will be hosting old horror movies and Science Fiction movies." The first Episode will feature "Plan 9 from Outer Space" a Ed Woods classic.

The show is planned to be premiering at the end of the month. You will be able to view it on the Graveyard Tales Facebook page, YouTube and Eerie House streaming site. I am a giant Godzilla fan as many of you may know from all the posts on Facebook and posts on the blog. This week marks the return of the Toho company to their lovable radioactive monster in America. Between October 11-18th the movie has been released in U.S. and Canada. It is being shown in 114 theaters. The film is being distributed by Funimation Films. The same company that distributed Attack on Titan live action movie in America.

The directors of the film is Hideaki Anno (creator of "Evangelion) and Shinji Higuchi (the director of the live action Attack on Titan). This film is the 29th Godzilla film that Toho has made. It is historic that this movie continues their 62 year old history of this iconic monster. I am looking forward to this it seems like tickets are being sold out quickly. Get them while you can.

Next two stories both have a little Freddy Krueger in them. Robert Englund has really embraced the character of Freddy over the years.

Last weekend, Robert England was in Florida for the Spooky Empire horror convention. Sadly Hurricane Mathew hit the area and the convention was canceled due to safety concerns. But before the convention "Florida Today" conducted an interview with Robert Englund.

In the interview, Robert brought up a concept of what he would like to do if he made his own Nightmare on Elm Street. This is what he said in the interview about the concept, " If I was in control of my own Nightmare on Elm Street movie I have an idea I would like to see. I thought it would it would be great if the children of the previous victims, or just kids who grew up hearing about stories of Freddy, were each haunted by their own version of Freddy. Kids grew up hearing stories about this Freddy Krueger guy and the awful things he did envision him in their own way, and that is the version that begins to haunt them."

I think this sounds like an interesting concept. There could be multiple forms of Freddy in the movie. Each person has their own idea of what is scary to them. I would like to see this. Would you? I am posting the full interview below for you to read if you want.
This next story is about the ultimate slasher horror icon crossover that never happen and why it never happen by one of the possible stars. In 2003, one of the ultimate slasher crossovers happen. Freddy vs. Jason. This was fans ultimate dream ever since the ending of "Jason Goes to Hell" and Freddy's glove came out of the ground to grab Jason's mask. When fans finally did get the ultimate death match between the two, it came with mix reviews. There was some issues with the film such as the story, missing of Kane Hodder behind the mask, and not enough slasher action. That is my personal opinion.

After the movie came out with some semi success. Many names were thrown out for who would be the next horror icon to join these two. One of those names was Ash from the evil dead series. There was even a script written for movie. But nothing happen movie wise but the script was made into a comic book and even spawned a sequel. It was an interesting concept and seemed like it would have worked.

In the Interview they asked Bruce, "Aside from Freddy and Jason, were any other crossovers ever discussed? Always thought Evil Dead/Hellraiser would be good." Bruce answered to the question was, " I'll be honest with you. I'm not real interested in a crossovers. One of the main reason why 'Ash vs. Freddy vs. Jason' did not come to pass is because we couldn't control any other characters than Ash. That felt like a creatively bankrupt way to go. Not to mention, your splitting the proceeds three ways with partners you may not want."

I believe that makes perfect sense for reason of it not being made. Sam Raimi and Bruce both worked really hard to shape Ash to become a horror Icon. And they may have creative control over the character in the movie but they had no control over the rest of the plot. And the movie could make Ash look weak or change his backstory completely. I think it would been too many cooks in the kitchen. I think that is what may have happen to the first film that caused some issues with the plots and casting. And splitting the money, I am sure would also be hard to do. It's a shame it didn't work out but at least we got a chance to still view these icons. Ash is still going strong with his T.V. series 'Ash vs. Evil Dead'. And their has been rumors that Elm Street and Friday 13th might be having new movies coming out.

Last couple weeks., I have been staying on top of the story of Zacherley being hospitalize recently before his birthday. I reported last week that he was hospitalize for digestive issues and that it looked like he would be back on his feet before his birthday. The Latest update from his website is that he has been released from the hospital. It seems like he was released from the hospital last weekend. All Zacherley had to say on the day he was released was, "What a beautiful day," the cool ghoul commented noting the rain and fog. I am happy to hear he got over his medical issue and is able to move on being healthy. I am hoping this means he will be around for many more years to come.
Well the brisk air has come and the leafs are falling. That means for sure that fall is here. Also October is official upon with horror movies all over TV and pumpkin spice everything. Last week, was mix of interesting news from both the horror host and horror community.

This week in horror host new, Elvira is again in headlines. Last week we reported that a possible retirement could be happening but it looks like that is not true at all. She has been keeping herself super busy. As of last weekend she did another appearance on the Food Network as a guest judge for the Show "Halloween Wars." The show is an interesting competition that mixes sugar work, pumpkins, and cakes. Each week the teams has to make a piece to fit a certain horrific theme.
If you need more proof of her not slowing down anytime soon. You don't have to look any further than her doing a stage show at KNOTT'S Berry Farm again. The show is part of KNOTT'S Scary Farm attraction. The Attraction runs from September 22 - October 31. The Show she is performing in is entitled, "Elvira's Danse Macabre. " The show consist of a Masquerade ball that she is hosting and you get to be her guest. The show is a triple threat with dancing, comedy, and music. The show happens twice an night at 9:00pm and 11:30pm. KNOTT'S Berry Farm also added a Boo-tique in Elvira's honor. The boo-tique will sell different Elvira merchandise. The plus is if you make a fifty dollar purchase in the boo-tique before ten, you get a chance to meet the Mistress of the Dark herself and get a sign autograph on one of your purchased items. I've seen some reviews of the show and it looks like it is fun time and a hit.
We go from one legend in the horror host community to another. Joe Bob Briggs a lovable cowboy that gives you some colorful commentary about his favorite movies. He may have been off the small screen since early 2000's but he is still remembered to this day. He was syndicated nationally just as Elvira and Mystery Science Theater 3.000 was. Just last week it was announced that one of the best horror shirt company Fright Rags was going to release some Joe Bob Briggs shirts, limited sign posters, and an enamel pin. Most of the shirts and posters was sold out in the first 30-minutes. If you would like to order one of the items you can be put on a reprint request. The shirts goes for $27.00 and may have a price variation with larger sizes. The signed posters are $30.00 and enamel pin is $12.00. Looks like in the two shirt styles there are still a small amount left in different sizes. Below is an image of the items and a link to the Fright Rags site for ordering.
Those are this weeks horror host news. Check back soon for more horror host news soon.

Now for some random horror news.

Last week, we reported about a feud that seemed to have risen between the original Halloween director John Carpenter and remake director Rob Zombie. A quick recap of the feud was that John felt disrespected and smeared by what Rob zombie has said about what his level of support was for him to take his own direction of the franchise. It seemed like it wasn't going to be a civil situation. But after we reported it here there was article released by NerdBastrds.com that Rob and John talked it out and the feud was over. How this information was obtained was by a tweet that john wrote on September 27, 2016. He simply wrote in the tweet that, "To everyone fascinated with the JC/RZ feud, old news. We spoke Sunday, we buried the hatchet. Let's move on."
It seems like it was situated calmly which is cool to see. Many of these celebrity feuds don't usually end like this. We will see what will happen now that John Carpenter is now going to be working on the next installment of the franchise. Not much information on it. But I am sure he will bring it back to the Micheal being a supernatural killing machine. That is nothing against Rob Zombie version. I did enjoy the realism of his film. Especially with the second one with all the stuff Lori was put through in the first movie that she would be really messed up in the second one. I am looking forward to see what both of them will be doing in their future projects.

Purge: Election Year was just released this week on DVD. I didn't see the latest installment but I did enjoy the other two especially the second one. I thought it was interesting that the first one was more closed off to the outside and how it effect a small neighborhood. Than in the second one it just hit on a large scale showing the purge encompassing the whole city. The Third one seems to ramp it up even more on a national level. It also talks more about the government behind the purge. Now it looks like the purge may be moving to the small screen. Many news sources has been reporting that Purge is in fact in the early stages of development.
James DeMonaco Writer/Director/creator of the Purge franchise sat down with CinemaBlend to talk about the release of Purge: Election Year and during the conversation he broke news about doing a TV show. In the interview, he stated, "The idea of why I like the idea of a maybe 10 hour TV on this, the one thing you really can't do on the film is, just because mere real estate and time, is you can't get into the nuance and complexity that would drive someone to commit terrible act on this night." I think this is an interesting concept and could go on for a couple of season with multiple different story lines possible. I would definitely check this out if they do. Be interesting to see what leads a person become a participant in the purge could it be for revenge, psychological issues, or just plain old fashion fun?

This last bit of horror news also started with a tweet. The tweet came from Don Mancini the writer and one of the directors in the Child's Play franchise. Last February, it was reported that Don was working on Child's Play seven and it would include Chucky's number one women/ doll Tiffany ( Jenifer Tilly) . There was no update about the movie until recent on September 30. When he tweeted that he was story boarding scenes and posted a picture with the tweet. Which will be posted below. If he is hinting at story boarding does that mean he has a script already? It has lead to more questions than answers. But it sure to hype fans and push excitment for the next film to be released. I am looking forward to see the next one. The Curse of Chucky the last one of the franchise was good and brought terror back to the character. I just hope they change Chucky back to his old look. I thought they were kind of off in the last one since they moved more away from practical effects and more of a CGI approach. Want more information check out the original article link below.
A lot of interesting stuff is going on. some interesting news going on this week with in horror host and horror movie community. Some good and sadly some bad.

Let's start with the horror host news.

First of all there is some sad news one of the legends withing the horror host community was hospitalize. Zacherley was hospitalize last week for some unknown reason. Many were worried and hoping with baited breath he would be okay. At the end of last week we were able to gain an update through his webpage that stated he was having some digestive issues. He was quoted on saying about his hospitalization that "I went out for some seafood, and i think the Kraken I ate was a little under cooked." So it looks like this bad news ended with some good news.

Also in Zacherley news on Monday September 26th, he celebrated his 98th birthday. Which is a great landmark in someones life. It also wonderful to see him being active as his character all these years. Here on this blog I would like to thank him for all his years as his character and giving back to his fans at conventions and other appearances. And Happy Birthday to the cool ghoul.

An update it was stated on his website that the Zacherley is still good health wise and is recovering nicely. He was also thrill to hear that many groups helped celebrate his birthday this Monday and thanked them.

Happy Birthday cool ghoul

Some other exciting is that on the Mystery Science Theater 3,000 crew announced that they are currently in production of the new show. It is exciting to have seen the project start with the crowd funding and their finding of a new home on Netflix. It will be interesting to see the final product. Check back for more new information on this developing story.

Lets go on to some fun Elvira news. She had an interview at San Diego Comic Con this year, where she was talking about possibly hanging up the Elvira garb and moving on. But as she stated before. " I said I was going have my last comic con appearance in my 40's and 50's and now my 60's." She also stated that, " I do have to draw the line I'm turning 65 this September, I'm trying to keep it together. I'm not sure how many years I can keep this working out." She goes on to basically state that she hates to put an expiration date on women and there bodies but there will be a time that she just won't be able to pull off the costume as good as she use to. All the information above came from a LA Weekly article entitled, " Why This Might be Elivra's Last Comic Con (as Elvira). Which was written by Katie Buenekke on July 23, 2016. I will have a link to the article on the bottom of this write up. I am hoping she can do it as long as she wants. It seems like she enjoys the character as much as Zacherley does.

As stated in the caption above under the photo. She will be coming out with a new book in October of 2016. The book will be filled with over 350 picture that never been seen before. It also contain original commentary from Cassandra Peterson (Elvira). It is a 240 page book and hardback. The retail price is $44.95 and you can also get a signed edition for $89.95. I think it will be interesting book to look at. So far it looks like you can only pre-order from her site. The link to pre-order will be below.
Elvira's book pre-order

Final bit of news about Elvira is that she be immortalized in those fun Pop! Vinyl. Looks like the pricing varies where you buy it Amazon has it for $19.99 plus shipping and handling. I am sure this would be something food for any horror fan collection.

In the next news update there will be some new Elvira news with some developing stories.

And the final bit of news comes from the horror movie community. first bit of news is that Herschel Gordon Lewis the godfather of gore passed away on Monday 9/26/16. He made many movies that made us hide in fear and nausea from the gore. Some of the movies he made was Wizard of Gore, Two Thousand Maniacs!, Blood Feast and many more. R.I.P to the godfather of gore and hope his movie legacy will continue for centuries to come with his classics.

Herschel Gordon Lewis in all his glory.

Lets end this News update on a fun little celebrity beef in the horror movie community between some big time directors over a classic film that they both made. The two directors are John Carpenter and Rob Zombie. It was announced that one of the original masterminds of Halloween would be coming back to the series that he started. And not much more has been heard about the project. But he will be taking the reigns of the series back from Rob Zombie. In a recent interview John Carpenter had a few select words about Rob Zombie. When Rob took over the series and rebooted it in a way giving it a more of a back story of Micheal Myers. Rob came to John for his blessing to make the movie and some advice for the film. In the article John states that, "Rob Zombie lied about me. He said that I was very cold to him when he me that he was going to make Halloween." John Carpenter also stated that, " Nothing could be further from the truth. I said, 'make it your own movie, man. This is yours now. Don't worry about me.' I was incredibly supportive. " I am not sure what is going to happen this interview was recently done by the student of New York Film Academy and written in a article entitled "John Carpenter Finally Comments on Rob Zombie's Halloween" by John Squires for Ihorror.com. I think this is an interesting situation and not sure if Rob will answer back to this comment. Will this situation become a Team John Carpenter vs. Team Rob Zombie.

I am not sure I think both were interesting movies. I enjoyed the classic Halloween and what it did for the slasher genre. One of my favorite slasher films. The first one and second one was a great bookend movies to the first part of the series. And Rob's remastering of the series was interesting because it brought some realism to the series and brings Micheal back to his face of fear status. The only thing I didn't like his version was the back story of Micheal. I think it takes away from who Micheal is a mysterious killing machine. Either is good in its own way. The link to the main article will be linked below. How do you feel about this Situation.

Today I recently received some disheartening news from a friend within the horror host community. It was told to me that Zacherley / Roland was recently hospitalize. Zacherley is a legend and a forefather within the community. He will be turning 98 next Monday. The community and this blog is asking that you send him some positive thoughts and prayers during this time to him and his family. This man is inspiration to many with in the community. I know he has become an inspiration to me. He had taken a character that was thrown in his lap and shaped it to the iconic status it is today. He still dresses in costume, sign autographs, and perform on stage. Which is amazing to see at his age. Here is hoping he has a speedy recover.Update he is doing much better as of September 26 and he was only having digestive issues.

As you now as of last year, Joel Hodgson the original series creator of Mystery Science Theater 3,000 has been working towards bring show back with a new cast and a new season. He started a Kickstarter program in November of last year to get 5.5 million in order to gain funding for twelve episodes. At the end of the campaign they were able to get close to 5 million dollars. They are currently selling different types of merchandises in order to gain the rest of the money. Everything seems to be in place with funding almost all there, new cast set, and writers. The only piece of the puzzle missing was where the show will be broadcasted. Would it be syndicated with a big television channel such as Comedy Central or SYFY as it was before?

The answer was recently reveled this pass weekend at San Diego Comic Con by Joel Hodgson that the new season of the show would be put on through Netflix. It seems like they decided to follow the trend that many other horror hosts has done by going through a streaming service. You will be able to get it in United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, and New Zealand. Now new yet on when the season will start but Netflix has already starting to put out promos for it. It was a short promo basically stating that the show was coming soon. I am sure more news will be coming soon.

Currently for the merchandise sale for MST3K to get the final funding is currently just take pre-orders.link is below:
This weeks clip is a fun crossover of horror hosts. One host on the rise and another doing his last appearance. Joe Bob Briggs was in his second year of Joe Bob's Drive-In Theater when this clip was filmed. Brigg's show started in 1990 on the cable channel called, The Movie Channel. The other host is Ghoulardi, which last had his own show in 1966 in Ohio. The name of the show was known as Shock Theater. It is interesting to see how a legend interacts with a future legend at that time. Even to see there characters interact and have them do an interview at the end of the movie between the two out of character. I thought this clip was interesting and educational on Ghoulardi's career. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Comment below what you think.

If your a horror host fan, Christmas may have come early for you. Joel Hodgson had made a big announcement that he wants to bring back Mystery Science Theater 3,0000. And he started a Kickstarter campaign in order to gain enough money for a new season. The main goal is Two million they are hoping to use that in order to make three episodes of the show. And take those episodes and shop them around to the different networks. The more they get from the Kickstarter campaign the more episodes they can make. (If you look at chart A below it give a break down of the money to episode ratio they can make.)

Some other cool new is that some cast from the original shows will appear in some shape or form on the show. Also new cast members will take over a new host and different voices for the robots I believe plus there will be a new mad scientist to torture the new host and robots. The final item to bring up is there is different rewards that you get for donating money. It varies from being enrolled in Mst3k information club to being in an episode and going to the premier of the first episode as a V.I.P. If you want learn more about the rewards and more about the new show you can click on this link Bring Back MST3K. Also at the link you can donate your money to the cause.

I grew up watching the show and was one of the few introductions I had to a Horror Hosts. There was also Elvira and Joe Bob Briggs in the area I could watch as a kid but MST3K became a main stay in my house. I think it will be great that a new generation will be able to gain that experience as I did. As I am a writing this I know they have met there goal and it is still climbing which is great. So expect three episodes in the future of the show. Below is some pictures and clips to help to explain more of what Joel is planning for the show.
Uncle Ted was a older gentleman with his dopey nephew Nefu Ned hosting horror movies on late nights in Wilkes-Bare, Pennsylvania. He would do some fun magic tricks and funny skits in between the breaks of the movies. He was a fun host and had some interesting characters popping up on show such as an Elvis impersonator .The shows he hosted were Uncle Ted's Ghoul School (1974- 1982) and Uncle Ted's Monstermania (1984 to unknown date). This week clip includes various clips from his shows. I hope you enjoy the clips and have some laughs as i did. Comment below what you think. Stay creepy my friends.
The Horror Host community is a buzz with Joel's mission to bring back Mystery Science Theater 3,000 for new season. Who wouldn't want see those wise cracking funny man and robots sitting in the front saying what we all wish we could say. I always enjoyed the format of there show. And checking out Joel's kick start campaign last it looked like they were way on their way to the goal amount. This weeks clip will take you all the way to the start of Mystery Science Theater 3,000. Before it was on major nation television stations. It home was on small station called KTMA in Minneapolis-St. Paul. Joel built the Robots and the set over night with things he had laying around. The show premiered on November 24, 1988. The show would run it's course until it would be canceled due to financial restraints at the station. But the show would be picked up by Comedy Central and the rest is history. Which will be looked at another time. Below is the clip of the first show opening intro of the original show. Check out the clip below and be amazed how much the show had evolved once it was national syndicated.

This months pick is a funny comedy/ horror movie. Tucker and Dale vs. Evil is a movie that is all about misunderstanding and judging a book by its cover. Tucker and Dale are two blue blood Americans that buy a cabin to be their new vacation home in a remote section of the woods. On there
journey to their vacation home they bump into a bunch of preppy college kids. Who see them as creepy hillbillies. Through out the movie as Dale and Tucker are fixing up their vacation home the college kids keep on bumping into them. As every horror movie goes the college kids starts dying one by one and who to blame of course the hillbillies Tucker and Dale. This movie got mix-ups, random killings, crazy mountain men, and so much more. I enjoy this one, it really made me laugh. Hopefully you will enjoy it to. Tell me in the comment what you think in the comments below. stay spooky, my friends.
In 1954, a radioactive terror would rise from the sea. The terror would leave a trail of destruction through out Japan. All the military's weapons were defenseless against the terror. Even Raymond Burr was defenseless against him. The Terror would gain the name of Godzilla. Godzilla would go on to reign as the King of the Monsters for 61 years now. He had many contenders that tried to dethrone the king but he continues wear the crown. He has been seen as hero, terror, and just hilarious at times. Who knew a man in suit could bring joy to people around the world and help to spawn one of the longest franchises in history. It looks like his legend will continue thanks to TOHO and Legendary continuing to make the movies. Happy Birthday Big G. Looking forward for him to stomp to the theaters again.
This weeks throwback Thursday clip is another fun one folks. This weeks is a clip from the original Svengoolie's show. Svengoolie was a host in the Chicago area during the 70's. Every clip I get to watch of the show it always fun to see because Svengoolie is either cracking himself up or others on the set. It seemed like the crew and Svengoolie had a great time doing the show. In this clip Svengoolie sings a song about werewolves. Which is hilarious with the lyrics and the sound effects. Check it out below and hope it gives you giggle. Stay spooky, my friends.
<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">He became a horror host just like many at that time did.
Paul’s boss at the station gave him the costume and told him he was going to
host the show as a teenage ghoul. The character’s appearance was given to him
but he was able to shape the character and add his own personality. In the
beginning of the show Armstrong didn’t do much talking. He would just grunt and
make noises. He would break items in between the breaks of the show. The show was filmed on a set dressed to look
like a teenage ghoul’s room. When the
show started it wasn’t popular due to Armstrong not speaking and his limited
interaction with the audience. The rates would change when Armstrong started to talk
and interact with the audience. Also there were two characters that were added
to “Shock Theater.” They were Armstrong's
mother, which yelled at him to clean his room and also an annoying neighbor.
These new characters would not be seen on camera they would be off camera
roles.

<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">
Armstrong would go strong on the show for three
years. During those three years he would perform jokes, skits, and gags. But the future of the show would come in
question on April of 1967. Management wanted to cancel the show in order to replace
it with the Joey Bishow’s talk show. But the unexpected outcry and protest
outside of the station by fans to bring the show back on. Lead th<span style="font-family: "times" , "times new roman" , serif;">e programmers, to come to the decision to bring back the show in order to stop
the outcry from the public. The return of the show would only go on till it was
cancelled again on January 26, 1968. The station would fire Paul and would lead
to final time he would play the character. The show would continue on the
station without a live host until it went off the air in 1974. After Paul left
the show, it consisted of logos and after show credits. Paul would sadly pass
away in 1996 and never play his character again. There seems to be no footage left from the show. The only items
to help keep the legacy of Shock Armstrong going are some stills and promotional
material from the show. The other thing
that keeps his legacy is some of his young fans that remember watching him as
kid. Now let’s hope that you will remember the All –American Ghoul and his
legacy. Stay spooky my friends.
Hi all, hope your Halloween has been a blast. It's been a day filled with horror and of course horror hosts for me. I have been able to discover some old and new horror hosts thanks to Roku and on the internet.

Below is some Halloween specials that I have found from this year:

The Mummy and The Monkey's Pumpkin Spice Special:

Two Horror Host for the price of one. Its a new show to me and I enjoy it so much. The formatting, sets, and costumes are great. Sure is hilarious. Check them out.

Colonel Graves Halloween Shortstacular:

Colonel Graves Halloween Shortstacular from Public Domain Drive-In on Vimeo.

Colonel Grave was another new horror host to me and he didn't disappoint. A fun show and some great shorts.

Halloween Special Count Gore De Vol and Karlos Borloff:

Two great hosts come together and make a wonderful special in order to talk about the old days. It is a great special. I am a sucker for horror host crossovers.

These are just some of the specials that was sent to me or I was find if i did not post yours but you have a special. Please send it to me and I'll post it thanks. Hope you all are full of scares and candy. Remember Halloween doesn't have to come once a year. Live life like every day is Halloween. Your favorite horror hosts will still be doing show week after week, month after month and year after year. So check them out and live everyday is Halloween like these wonderful folks do. Stay spooky my friends.
